Charity raising funds for Zambian Rural Schools

The Sausage Tree Charity raises funds for rural schools in Southern Zambia. Sugar Web are proud to support the valuable work this charity carries out in providing valuable funds for the children of the Luangwa Valley.
Sausage Tree Charity

The Sausage Tree Charity is very close to our hearts at Sugar. We’ve been working with Lu Chignall for a number of years helping to raise funds for schools in rural Zambia. During 2020 we had the opportunity to redevelop the site and bring it up to date (it really needed it).

We’ve attempted to retain the personality of the old site by sticking with the quirky Neucha font and the distinctive sausage tree logo. Pushing this theme further with the new site we’ve deployed a left-hand navigation. With the main content area responding to the size of the screen, this allows for the content to feature large colourful images. Many of these pages feature the enthuiastic, vibrant children from the schools. They’re the best ambassadors there are for this project.

We’re big fans of the new WordPress editor, Gutenberg. All main content areas are built using this new layout engine. This makes it so much simpler to update the content, rearrange the layout and allow site editors to access far more of the content elements. Gutenberg helps to minimise the need for custom fields and extra entry inputs.

Technical Notes

On the technical side the site is built using the Zurb Foundation responsive framework. We’ve used a number of block plugins for enhance the layout including Editor Full Width and Layout Grid (one of our favourites!). Additional functionality is provided by Gravity Forms, Jetpack, and Yoast’s SEO plugin. We appreciate all the work these developers put into this software!
